Leaky gut is thought to be where the intestinal wall becomes permeable, allowing substances to pass into the bloodstream. For coeliacs (celiacs), it is connected with SIBO, caused by harmful food substances such as gluten, and also soya, sugar and grains and a bacterial overgrowth. Healing a leaky gut involves stopping eating the foods that inflame and cause the gut to become damaged. For coeliacs this is not only gluten but also can be sugar, soya and grains such as corn.
Leaky gut is recognised medically, but is a grey area. As is so much. Medical science is just coming to terms with the importance of understanding gut health and it’s impact on general health.
